The Crown Placement Procedure

Dental crowns are a tooth-shaped "cap" that fit snuggly over the tooth, completely covering it. Crowns mimic the shape, color, strength and appearance of a tooth. Click on a thumbnail below to view the crown placing procedure.

Placing a Dental Crown in Chandler, AZ

Crowns are traditionally placed in two visits. In the first visit, Dr. Walden will evaluate the tooth to rule out the possibility of a root canal and ensure that your tooth is healthy enough to support a crown. He will then prepare the broken tooth by removing any decay and filing it down to a core structure. Impressions of your mouth are taken and will be used to design your crown. Fabrication takes roughly three weeks, during which time you will wear a temporary crown.

When you return for the placement of your permanent restoration, Dr. Walden will remove the temporary crown, clean your tooth, and check the fit of your new crown. Your new crown will then be bonded onto your tooth structure with dental cement for a secure hold.

CEREC, the Alternative to Traditional Crown Placement

Dr. Walden also offers CEREC, a technology that allows him to create a customized crown and permanently place it in just one office visit. CEREC crowns are made of a beautiful metal free ceramic and milled right in our office utilizing CAD software. For more information about how we can reduce inconvenience and treatment time when correcting your chipped or broken tooth, ask about CEREC when you schedule your appointment with Dr. Walden in Chandler, AZ.
